Don't overwhelm your audience. Sending too many messages can be a turn-off. There are limits on how many people you can message each day to prevent this.
Service conversations are not affected. These limits only apply to marketing and promotional messages. You can continue to freely chat with customers about their orders or answer questions.
These limits are like tiers, and you can unlock higher tiers with more messages by verifying your Facebook Business account.
Limited Access (No Verification): Up to 250 chats per day.
Tier 1 (Verified): Up to 1,000 chats per day.
Tier 2: Up to 10,000 chats per day.
Tier 3: Up to 100,000 chats per day.
Tier 4: Unlimited chats per day.
To increase your messaging limit from 250 to 1,000 chats per day, simply verify your account!
To check your Account's Messaging Limit, go to and you will see.
WhatsApp uses a tiered system for messaging limits. You can increase your daily limit by meeting specific criteria. Here's what you need to know:
Connected Status: Your phone number must be in "Connected" status.
Quality Rating: Maintain a "Medium" or "High" quality rating for your messages.
Approved Display Name: Ensure your business name is approved by WhatsApp.
Conversation Volume: This depends on your current limit. You need to initiate conversations with a certain number of unique customers within the past 7 days. This number is simply your current limit divided by 2.
Example: At 250 limit (Limited Access), you need 125 new conversations (250 / 2).
Meeting all these conditions will automatically upgrade your messaging tier within 24 hours.
The good news is you can reach 1,000 chats daily without Facebook Business verification. Here's how:
Message 1,000 Unique Contacts: Reach out to 1,000 unique contacts within 30 days.
Maintain High Quality: Keep your messages helpful and avoid practices that lower your quality rating (explained later).
As you grow, WhatsApp can automatically upgrade you to higher tiers based on your activity. Here's a breakdown:
Upgrading from Tier 1 (1,000):
Initiate conversations with at least 500 unique users within 7 days to move to Tier 2 (10,000).
Messaging limits automatically adjust based on your status, quality rating, and conversation volume.
If you hit your current limit, you can still continue conversations when existing ones end.
Example: With a 1,000 limit, you can start a new chat when someone from your first 1,000 conversations replies.
Example 1 (2 Days): If you initiate your 500th conversation for Tier 2 upgrade at 3 pm, the limit increases at 3 pm the next day (24 hours).
Example 2 (4 Days): Same scenario at 7 pm, the limit increases at 7 pm the next day.
If your quality rating is flagged within 7 days of starting a new conversation, your messaging limit drops by one tier. Regain "Connected" status and try again to increase your limit.
Think of your quality rating as a scorecard for your messages. It reflects how recipients react to your messages. Sending unwanted messages or getting blocked lowers your score. Keep your messages helpful and relevant to maintain a high rating.
Here are key practices to ensure your WhatsApp marketing stays on track and avoids limitations:
Always obtain customer consent before starting a conversation, both on and off WhatsApp.
Ensure your messages comply with WhatsApp's Business Policy and Commerce Policy. Only message users who have opted-in.
Personalize your messages and tailor them to user needs. Avoid generic greetings.
Don't overwhelm users with excessive messages. Keep content informative and concise.
Clearly explain the benefits of receiving updates on WhatsApp and personalize messages whenever possible.
Specify the types of messages users are opting into and honor their preferences.
Provide clear instructions for opting out (e.g., "STOP" or "UNSUBSCRIBE" button).
Strictly follow opt-out requests to avoid user frustration and potential reporting.
Meta monitors user sentiment and may lower quality ratings for businesses with frequent user blocks or reports.
Template messages causing a high block rate may be suspended until revised.
To enhance user experience, WhatsApp is introducing limitations on marketing messages in India. This initially affects a small volume of marketing conversations deemed less engaging.
This restriction only applies to new marketing conversations started by message templates. Ongoing conversations won't be affected.
Exceeding the limit may result in message non-delivery.
Cloud API error code: 131026
On-Premises API error code: 1026
Specific details on the limit causing non-delivery are not disclosed by Meta for privacy reasons.
We recommend delaying retries for non-delivered messages with increasing intervals until successful delivery.
By following these guidelines, you can maintain a high quality rating and ensure your marketing efforts reach the right audience on WhatsApp.
